A NEUROLOGIST'S VIEW

"Treatment options for Multiple Sclerosis have improved considerably over the last decade.Therapies that alter the immune system such as beta interferons, glatiramer acetate and mitoxantrone clearly have been shown to reduce the frequency of relapses and may slow progression of disease in some patients. Unfortunately these treatments are ineffective for some patients.

Symptomatic therapies for spasticity, bladder dysfunction and fatigue have also improved. The role of physiotherapy and complementary therapies remains central for patient management. Finally there is considerable ground for optimism regarding emerging therapies, including Natalizumab and stem cell therapy. The goal remains to cure Multiple Sclerosis."
